The Lafayette Parish Complete Count Committee is distributing fliers with census messaging to businesses in the hard to count areas of the parish who are open for business. The restaurants will put the flyers in their exterior seating areas and the stores will include the flyers in their gift bags. They expect to reach close to a thousand people over the four days in the very hard to count communities.
Councilwoman Cindy Nguyen of New Orleans hosts a weekly Facebook Live for the COVID19 updates in her district and she has often included Census messages and encouraged Census participation. This week, she closes out every Facebook Live video with Census messaging. She has a huge impact on the Vietnamese and African American population in the community. The Facebook Live is interactive and she hopes to really get the conversation going in those communities.
The ESL teachers in Lafayette parish included the Spanish Census coloring books in their resource distribution to ESL kids at Charles Burke Elementary School located in Duson, LA. The team distributes resources to the children so they can continue working from home. Between 35-45 kids received the Census books to work on with their parents.
